Hearing Aids

ReSound Sensia

ReSound Sensia is a premium rechargeable hearing aid that uses automatic AI processing and forward-focused beamforming to bring out the voice you want to hear, with fully working Auracast and all-day battery life.

ReSound Sensia is a premium hearing aid family from GN Hearing designed to solve a common frustration with AI-powered hearing aids: focusing on the wrong voice. Instead of simply locking onto the loudest sound in the room, Sensia is built to bring forward the person you are actually trying to hear. It does this while keeping the very small size and long battery life of its predecessor, ReSound Vivia, and adds fully working Auracast connectivity from day one.

Hearing the Person You Want to Hear

Many hearing aids struggle in busy places because they cannot tell which voice matters to you. A louder talker at the next table, or even background music, can end up getting the attention instead of your conversation partner.

Sensia approaches this problem using a simple, natural cue: people usually look toward the person they want to hear. Its binaural 4-microphone beamformer uses microphones on both hearing aids to give priority to speech coming from the direction you are facing. At the same time, Sensia keeps lower-pitched sound from around you, so you stay aware of your surroundings and retain the spatial cues your brain uses to tell where sounds are coming from.

Intelligent All-Around: How Sensia Processes Sound

Sensia's automatic sound processing system, called Intelligent All-Around, brings three technologies together.

AcoustIQ acts as the decision-maker. It identifies what kind of environment you are in, such as quiet, noisy, or speech in noise, and then turns on the right features. GN reports 91% accuracy in classifying sound environments across 10 test settings. The beamformer then focuses on speech in front of you, and DNN denoising (a deep neural network trained to recognize speech) reduces competing voices and distractions around the person you are talking with.

Sensia also knows when not to rely on AI. In situations dominated by non-speech noise, like a vacuum cleaner or fan, a speech-trained DNN can create unwanted sound artifacts. In those moments, Sensia automatically switches to ReSound's established Noise Tracker II noise reduction instead, choosing the better tool for each situation.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Intelligent All-Around automatic processing combining AcoustIQ, beamforming, and DNN denoising
  • Up to 24 to 30 hours of battery life on rechargeable microRIE and custom models, depending on use
  • Fully functional Auracast at launch, with broadcasts selectable in the ReSound Smart 3D app
  • Bluetooth LE Audio for streaming calls, music, and media
  • Multiple styles, including rechargeable microRIE, size 312 and 13 RIE, and several custom in-ear options
  • CROS and bimodal options, including models designed to work with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors

Styles, Technology Levels, and Battery Life

Despite the added processing power, the rechargeable microRIE keeps essentially the same compact size as Vivia, and GN has introduced a smaller premium portable charger. Sensia is also available in custom styles, including rechargeable ITE and ITC models, a wireless ITC, and a small non-wireless CIC.

Features vary by model and level. Sensia 9 microRIE includes the full automatic Intelligent All-Around system. Sensia 7 offers DNN processing and Clear Focus beamforming through a manually selected hearing-in-noise program. Custom models use Clear Focus directional processing but do not include DNN denoising at launch. Your audiologist can help you weigh these differences against your hearing needs and budget.

Auracast and Bimodal Support

Unlike some hearing aids that are only "Auracast-ready," Sensia's Auracast capability works now. Auracast lets you tune directly into audio broadcasts in places like theaters, conference venues, and other public spaces, with advantages over traditional hearing loops that include stereo sound and selectable audio channels. At least one RIE model also includes a telecoil for use with existing loop systems.

For people who use a cochlear implant in one ear, ReSound Sensia Bimodal is designed to work with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors, helping both devices function together as a coordinated system.
